Let's Talk About Peace, in Ukraine

I invite you to join me in my efforts to support Ukraine through conversation at Backwater Books this Sunday if you're local and even from afar, as stated in the event flier through the єДопомогa platform. -> https://lnkd.in/dpeDgcVF

In the meantime, I would like to take a moment to thank Halyna Yanchenko, People's Deputy of Ukraine, for chatting with me last week and also Congressman Mfume's legislative staff for agreeing to meet with me before the event, primarily as they work on the Ukraine Caucus.

(If you're interested I will also provide a recording of a related powerpoint presentation, just say the word through a private message!)

Yoga Therapy for Breast Cancer

Anyone coping with breast cancer is invited to join us this fall for an experiential exploration of how aspects of yoga therapy might best support you during this pandemic.

Yoga therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga. Over the years breast cancer patients have contributed to the scientific evidence base and research now also shows that incorporating the tools of yoga may be able to help:

* improve physical functioning

* reduce fatigue

* reduce stress

* improve sleep

* improve quality of life

These are challenging times AND there are many tools available to you. Come explore what might be right for you.

Your instructor for this yoga therapy workshop is Amy Genevieve Kozak. Amy is a Kripalu Yoga Teacher, an Internationally Certified Integrative Yoga Therapist, as well as a Duke Integrative Medicine trained and National Board Certified Integrative Health Coach. Patient-centered care is a passion they first cultivated when their mom was a Johns Hopkins' patient, and for the past four years that passion has also been shared with Johns Hopkins' first year medical students. Now it's your turn!

Education for Flourishing Summit

I will be offering contemplative practices during the two-day Flourishing Summit: "A Call to Rethink Education in Light of COVID-19 Pandemic” created in collaboration with Harvard’s Human Flourishing Program, Notre Dame of Maryland University, and St. Louis University.

The summit will address the current pandemic and the value of fostering resilience and flourishing in ways consistent with the phrase that students “can’t Bloom until they Maslow.”

This summit aims to bring together an interdisciplinary group of researchers, administrators, practitioners, and thought-leaders in education, with parents and students, to exchange ideas on how to promote and support human flourishing in schools and communities.

Topics for the event include:

  • Teaching and Learning for Flourishing

  • Race and Flourishing in Education

  • Measurement and Evaluation of Flourishing in Schools

Keynote speakers will include Kwame Adams, Graduate 2020, Harvard Graduate School of Education and Matthew T. Lee, Human Flourishing Program, Harvard University.

Yoga Therapist Graduation (redux)

While addressing Covid19, Police Brutality, and the looming Climate Crisis are all certainly more paramount, my "postponed/cancelled" Yoga Therapist Graduation is now rescheduled.

My apologies for all the confusion around this but much of it has been beyond my control! Dare I even say it?

If everything continues to go as revised, I (and my fellow graduates) will be completing the Yoga Therapy coursework via Zoom this coming weekend.

If you're willing, I'd love to receive your support through an appropriately distanced visit/the USPS/phone calls/via Zoom afterwards. Thank you for all the support you've already provided over these long five years!

Profound Rest Series

Take time to nourish and care for yourself, before we head into the season of gratitude and giving - on November 3rd, 10th, & 17th - I’ll tuck you in!

This special series of evening classes will provide participants with a safe space to explore Yoga Nidra, a technique for deep healing and rejuvenation. We will begin each evening with gentle warm-ups, somatic movements and self-massage techniques in preparation
for entering a state of profound rest where true healing and transformation also take place.

Yoga Nidra is a guided meditative practice that requires
nothing of you, simply lie down and listen. While you give yourself
permission to rest and restore, you will find yourself tapping into your innate ability to heal. You will leave with several ideas for self-care and your own home practice as well. No prior yoga or meditation experience is needed.
